Not exactly a disaster

Sep 30, 2017

The dryer stopped working today. First load of colored laundry this morning went through no problem, put the whites in and nothing happened. Bryan was at work and I was on my own with all three kids, so I tried the things you try and when I had to accept that it wasn’t going to magically start working in time for that particular load, it was time to figure out something else. We once went a good solid several months without a dryer when Bryan was in grad school (and, I might add, we were using cloth diapers at the time). And hanging laundry up to dry is honestly a lot like using cloth diapers–it’s not that big of a deal, but it’s definitely more work and not quite as nice as the more common middle class American alternative. All this to say, I was underwhelmed and far from panic mode when the dryer unexpectedly went on strike. I would have strung a line up outside since the weather was nice, but clotheslines aren’t allowed in our HOA, so I propped up some makeshift clothes racks and hung it all up to dry in the basement. The clothes always end up a little less soft and a lot more wrinkly when they air dry, but at least they’re not wet anymore and hopefully we’ll be able to figure out the problem with the dryer and get it all fixed soon.
