Tucked back at the end of a long dirt road, surrounded by tall pines sat the secluded A-frame. It was rather small inside–just one big room with a kitchenette in one corner, in another corner a cramped bathroom with a stand-up shower and one of those toilets with the pull-string flush, two twin beds across from the bathroom, and a big bed across from that. In the middle stood a single table that wobbled. Affixed to the inside of the house all around the doorframe were shelves for boots and books and buckets and a few big hooks for daypacks. True, it was cramped at mealtime and noisy at bedtime and someone always seemed to wake too early in the mornings. But, afterall, it wasn’t the cabin you came for–it was the forest.
