I’ve been thinking a lot about cows

Jul 8, 2017

The great thing about breastfeeding my healthy newborn baby is that I get to have a healthy newborn baby I can feed really well (and for free vs. buying tons of formula). The not-as-great thing about it is that it means sitting down to feed him for, well, most of the day. So that’s fun.

As a result, ive been trying to find other ways to fill the emotional buckets of our two older kids, especially our very tender-hearted little 3 1/2 year old middle child who’s been needing a little extra love.

So today during a rare break from my rocking chair I went down to the basement and unearthed some playdoh and water color paints that I doubted anyone else would be able to find. We haven’t actually used them since I got them out, but, you know, actually getting the supplies out of the storage room is half the battle.

And later when I was back to nursing again I also started reading Charlotte’s Web aloud to the kids. I’ve tried to get our oldest (who inhales books) to read it a number of times, but to no avail. I’m pretty sure the best way to get her uninterested in a book is for the suggestion to come from me. (I may or may not still be grieving her total and complete disinterest in the American Girl books, which I of course loved as a child.) Anyway, I joked to Bryan that she kept saying she didn’t like it, but that if I read it aloud she’d probably get sucked in and love it and I’m happy to report that my evil plan is working. I sat on the couch with the kids snuggled on either side of me and nursed the baby as I read the first four chapters aloud and, well, I don’t want to say I told you so, but she actually stayed in the room the whole time and only sounded polite and not eye-rolling/over-it-voiced when she said she was ready for a break after that. Ok so maybe she doesn’t looooove it yet, but one can only hope. First step, Wilbur the pig. Next step, Molly Saves the Day.

But actually I should probably go now so I can actually try and get some sleep between feedings.

Nooooo!!!! She doesn’t like the American Doll books?! That makes ME sad and she’s not even my child! Yes, Molly Saves the Day! Sometimes I secretly want to check them out at the library to just read myself…annnnnd maybe sometimes I DO actually check out Babysitters Club books to read myself. #10yearoldatheart ๐Ÿ˜‚
