After nine years of marriage, Bryan tends to get tired of my super well-curated Missy Higgins station on Pandora, so yesterday when we were driving around a bunch he switched it to my Simon and Garfunkle station, but the songs on there are mostly songs I either love or hate, so after I ran out of skips I finally switched it to my *NSYNC station, which is both hilarious and familiar and has the added charm of making me feel like I’m at a middle school dance. Not to mention the added Seinfeld-esque comedy bonus of Bryan saying, “Hey, I know this song!” at the beginning of almost every single song.
I just started this station a month or so ago. I never cared about boy bands (or popular music in general) growing up (ok or still even now), but it’s fun to listen to old songs sometimes.
Also, the more I listen to them, the more I can’t help thinking that, based on the content of their songs, they would have either made really great boyfriends or just really pathetic/annoying stalkers. Like, I’m all for love, but sometimes you just gotta get over the girl and move on, ya know?
I should also note that when I say *NSYNC what I really mean is *NSYNC/Backstreet Boys because (with the exception of “Backstreet’s Back Alright” where they say the name of their band IN the song) I can never tell the difference between the two. I had friends in middle school/high school who were nuts for one and anti the other and I honestly don’t know how they could even tell which one was which or remember who was in which band. All I know is that Justin Timberlake was in *NSYNC and that Lance Bass came out as being gay, but even still I don’t remember which band he was in.
Anyway, here’s to some old 90’s jams, may they rest/live on in peace.
