Read Baby Stuff part 1 here

I remember calling one of my older sisters from the car seat aisle at Babies R Us when I was pregnant with my first, asking her how in the world I was supposed to be able to know the differences between all the various car seats, let alone choose one. She gave me some sage advice (“Katie, they all meet US safety standards, just go with a cheap one that doesn’t take up too much room”) and I left the store and later bought one for $50 somewhere else. Some annoying and temporary and unimportant dilemmas about baby clothes

Feb 14, 2017

I was going to take Felix to a cute little playgroup Valentine’s Day party this morning and I even showered for the occasion, but, sadly, my taking a shower meant that Felix went with Bryan to take Olivia to school which resulted in Felix falling down at some point and scraping his nose and lips and knee and he was so upset about the whole thing and throwing such a tantrum that even after some kid tylenol all I could do to help him calm down was put him down for a nap. Which he’s not taking, but at least he’s in his bed and getting some much-needed rest. Meanwhile, I’ve been looking at baby clothes. Continue reading

All my dreams came true

Feb 13, 2017

You guys. I can’t even tell you how happy I am right now. Tired, yes, but happy. And not like the kind of happy you are when someone hands you a free donut you weren’t expecting, but true joy that only comes from previous suffering that really makes you appreciate how good you’ve got it. Such is the bliss that is freezer meals. Continue reading

Orange Stroganoff

Feb 12, 2017

After I posted on our private family IG account this morning about our new freezer coming on Monday and some of the freezer meals I have planned/already started, a couple friends were curious/suspicious about my mention of Orange Stroganoff, so I said I’d post the recipe. To be clear, there’s no citrus involved. It’s just amped up super delicious stroganoff that uses steak pieces (mmm!) instead of ground hamburger and the 2 TBS of tomato paste it calls for makes the sauce look orange. Also it is so so good and my favorite. Continue reading

Non-annoying kids shows

Feb 10, 2017

Our daughter Olivia is 7 and our son Felix just turned 3. I remember when Olivia was a baby I was pretty strict about not letting her watch tv (or at least not putting on a show specifically for her) until she was at least 2 years old. Which I’m sure didn’t really happen because by the time she was 18 months old we moved from Utah to Ohio and drove cross-country we had bought a travel dvd player specifically for the purpose of trying to keep her happy on the trip and when we made it to Ohio she was so addicted to watching Busy Town every time we got in the car that we had to bring her down off it slowly. Then fast forward to three years ago when I was pregnant with Felix and I remember being so relieved that Olivia knew how to work the tv and dvd player so she could put on a show for herself when I was laying on the couch feeling so so sick. The kids don’t watch that many shows now, but I’ve accepted it as a regular part of life. It gives them a break, it gives me a break, and sometimes we all just need that. Continue reading

Maternity clothes that are worth their weight in gold

Feb 8, 2017

Ok, I get that this might not be the most rousing, universally-applicable topic to start off the real mom posts I’m doing for the rest of the month, but listen, what I’m about to offer you is a little nugget of gold. Or maybe you won’t care. But if someone could have told me this a month ago when I was desperately searching, I would have been super grateful. So I’m offering it here for whoever it may help.
